Q. What is the Business Productivity Online Suite?
A. Microsoft Online’s Business Productivity Online Suite, more commonly referred to as Microsoft BPOS, is a bundled offering of four products focused on providing productivity and collaboration solutions for your business:
- Exchange Online – for your email and collaboration needs
- SharePoint Online – a managed document repository for sharing content
- Office Communications Online – for real-time communication through secure instant messaging
- Office Live Meeting – for holding online meetings that can be internally attended or hosted events
All of the included services are hosted and stored online by Microsoft. This means that you can utilize these services not only from the comfort of your office, but via the web from anywhere else.
What does this mean? For example, accessing your email can be done from your desktop through Microsoft Outlook, or if you’re out of the office you can access your Exchange Online mailbox through the web. It also means that a complete library of documents stored in SharePoint Online can be accessed, organized, and edited from anywhere at any time.
Q. How much does the Business Productivity Online Suite cost?
A. The Microsoft Online Business Productivity Online Suite is purchased by subscription licenses. The standard suite requires a minimum of 5 seats, starting at $10 per seat per month, with a 12 month subscription. Your costs can vary based on the number of users, the services chosen, and a number of other options.
Q. What does the Sign-in app do?
A. The Microsoft Online Services Sing In application provides you with a simple, single sign-in point for all of your Microsoft Online Services. This means that by signing in through the sign-in application you can access your Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Communications Online and Office Live Meeting accounts without having to provide log-in information for each individually. Once you log-in, the sign-in application will list all of the services available to you, so you can access them with one click.
Another benefit to the sign-in app? Password management for all of your Microsoft Online Services also from a single access point. Change your password once and it changes for all of your services.
Q. How do I set up BPOS?
A. The easiest way to set up your BPOS environment is with the BPOS Commander. BPOS Commander provides you with a “Getting Started on BPOS Wizard” which guides you through the process of getting your BPOS environment running step-by-step. With the set-up wizard from BPOS Commander, facilitated set-up simplifies the process and allows you to be sure you complete set-up successfully.
